Respiratory Research Conference of Our Team:
Respiratory Days 2013

September 4-6, 2013, Přední Labská, Špindlerům Mlýn, Chata Bumbálka

A scientific conference aimed at both technical and clinical aspects of conventional and unconventional mechanical ventilation.

Please, see the detailes in the invitation letter. The event was supported by Czech Technical University grant SVK 43/13/F7.

Congratulations to our junior scientist!

Published

Johnny Matějka and Jakub Ráfl from our respiratory research team (www.ventilation.cz) were awarded for their work “Model of High-frequency Oscillatory Ventialtion Based on the Electro-Acoustic Analogy” at the 17th International Student Conference POSTER 2013.

Congratulations!

High Frequency Jet Ventilation hungers for exactness and we will help

Published

High Frequency Jet Ventilation (HFJV) is a very efficient ventilatory technique especially for newborns and pediatric patients with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS).

Nonetheless, for rational and effective use of this life-saving ventilatory technique, several complementary monitoring and control techniques might be very useful. We organized a meeting with Bunnell Inc. in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, on April 7, 2013 about research projects dealing with HFJV. Bunnell Inc. produces the most spread HFJV ventilator Life Pulse (http://www.bunl.com/product-tabs2.html). New research topics were proposed and discussed.

When we get out of breath

Published

Karel Roubík gave a public lecture about spontaneous and artificial lung ventilation. Other interesting topics related to breathing were discussed as well, including SCUBA diving, high mountain sickness and altered breathing when travelling aboard of Boeing 737.

Researcher Tom Bachman from California, USA, visited our lab

Published

Thomas Bachman has been dealing with high-frequency ventilation and other research topics in mechanical ventilation for many years, publishing many scientific articles. Tom works for SensorMedics, Yorba Linda, CA, USA, and Carefusion, San Diego, CA, USA (http://www.carefusion.com/); he is a principal of ECONOMEDTRX company, etc.

Tom met our team on March 3, 2013; we were discussing our research cooperation in respiratory care. Current advances were addressed and several new research topics were proposed. CLIO2, optimal CDP setting and the “best” lung recruitment techniques were discussed.

It’s the right time for Electrical Impedance Tomography to emerge from twilight sleep

Published

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) represents a useful noninvasive bedside monitoring tool that is able to monitor lung recruitment, distribution of ventilation and other effects of mechanical ventilation.

On Monday, January 1, 2013, there was a meeting with representatives of Maltron… and Non-Conventional Ventilatory Team (NVT) aimed at plans for both laboratory and clinical research of EIT in respiratory care. The meeting is a part of the long time cooperation between the two bodies. NVT uses two EIT systems during their research: Draeger Pulmovista 500 (http://campaigns.draeger.com/pulmovista500/en/) and Maltron Sheffield MK 3.5 (http://www.maltronint.com/eit/eit.php). Ask us about the differences between these two systems before you decide witch one to buy :-)
