Abstract
The article describes the first clinical study uncovering that HFOV is more efficient in extrapulmonary (secondary) ARDS than in pulmonary (primary) ARDS form. HFOV requires different ventilatory parameters depending on ARDS forms: CDP (i.e. MAP during HFOV) must be higher in extrapulmonary ARDS (2.0±0.6 kPa in ARDSp and 2.8±0.6 kPa in ARDSexp (p<0.01)) to reach the best oxygenation.
